John J. Nielsen, CFP®, CRPC®

Private Wealth Advisor

My story is one of drive and commitment. Upon my graduation from high school in May of 1980, I served my country in the United States Navy for four years. After being honorably discharged in June of 1984, I returned to my hometown of Fort Dodge, Iowa. I met my wife Christy there in the summer of 1985; we married in the fall of 1986, and started a family. After working several jobs in those early years, upon turning 30 years of age I decided that I wanted more out of my professional life. So I enrolled in college, and after eight years of night school, I attained my Bachelors of Arts degree in accounting, while working full-time as a FedEx courier, being a husband, helping to raise three small children, and helping to maintain a household.

I had the drive and commitment to accomplish even more than what I was doing – to achieve something meaningful to me. I help my clients to do the same.

I started in the financial planning industry in 2001, and have since built a strong advisory practice focusing on investment management, retirement income, estate planning and tax planning strategies. Nielsen Financial Management is the embodiment of my dream to provide my clients with an independent, objective environment in which we can work together to craft personalized, tailored financial planning solutions. My accounting background and years of experience in the financial industry help me approach each client’s financial needs objectively.

I graduated from Buena Vista University in 1998 with a BA in Accounting. I invested further in my trade by obtaining my CFP® certification and my CRPC® designation.

My wife and I are very active in the Fort Dodge Community. I am the current Treasurer and past President of the Fort Dodge Noon Rotary Club, am a member of the Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance, and serve on the Investment Committee of the Board of the Fort Dodge Community School District Foundation; we also take an active role in the annual “Swing for a Cure” golf fundraiser, which benefits the local Diabetes Center at UnityPoint Medical Center – this is a cause close to both of our  hearts, as our oldest son, Colby, suffers from Type 1 juvenile diabetes.
